Hag1:1 In the second year of Daryawesh the king, in the sixth month,

in the first day of the month, the Word of JWJY came by the hand of Chaggay

the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealti’El, governor of Yahudah,

and to Yahushua the son of Yahutsadaq, the high priest, saying,

`eth-bo’ `eth-beyth Yahúwah l’hibanoth.

Hag1:2 Thus says JWJY of hosts, saying, This people says, The time has not come,

even the time for the house of JWJY to be rebuilt.

Hag1:4 Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses

while this house lies desolate?

‹4› Εἰ καιρὸς ὑµῖν µέν ἐστιν τοῦ οἰκεῖν ἐν οἴκοις ὑµῶν κοιλοστάθµοις,

ὁ δὲ οἶκος οὗτος ἐξηρήµωται;

Hag1:6 You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not to be satisfied;

you drink, but there is not to become drunk; you dress, but warmth is not to one;

and he who hires himself is setting himself for a bag full of holes.

‹6› ἐσπείρατε πολλὰ καὶ εἰσηνέγκατε ὀλίγα, ἐφάγετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς πλησµονήν,

ἐπίετε καὶ οὐκ εἰς µέθην, περιεβάλεσθε καὶ οὐκ ἐθερµάνθητε ἐν αὐτοῖς,

καὶ ὁ τοὺς µισθοὺς συνάγων συνήγαγεν εἰς δεσµὸν τετρυπηµένον.

You sowed much, and carried in little; you ate and not unto fullness; you drank

Hag1:8 Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the house,

that I may be pleased with it and be glorified, says JWJY.

‹8› ἀνάβητε ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος καὶ κόψατε ξύλα καὶ οἰκοδοµήσατε τὸν οἶκον,

καὶ εὐδοκήσω ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐνδοξασθήσοµαι, εἶπεν κύριος.

Ascend into the mountain, and cut wood! and you shall build the house.

Hag1:9 You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home,

I blow it away. Why? declares JWJY of hosts, because of My house which is ruined,

And you, each man, runs to his own house.

‹9› ἐπεβλέψατε εἰς πολλά, καὶ ἐγένετο ὀλίγα·

καὶ εἰσηνέχθη εἰς τὸν οἶκον, καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτά.

διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ Ἀνθ’ ὧν ὁ οἶκός µού ἐστιν ἔρηµος,

ὑµεῖς δὲ διώκετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ,

You looked for much, and there became little;

kai eisnechth eis ton oikon, kai exephyssa auta.

and it was carried into the house, and I blew it away.

On account of this, thus says YHWH Almighty, Because My house is deserted,

Hag1:10 Therefore, the heavens above you has held back from dew

and the earth is held back from her produce.

w’`al kal-y’gi`a kapayim.

Hag1:11 I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain,

on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on men, on cattle,

and on all the labor of your hands.

‹11› καὶ ἐπάξω ῥοµφαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σῖτον

w’kol sh’erith ha`am b’qol Yahúwah ‘Eloheyhem w’`al-dib’rey Chaggay hanabi’

ka’asher sh’lacho Yahúwah ‘Eloheyhem wayir’u ha`am mip’ney Yahúwah.

Hag1:12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealti’El, and Yahushua the son of Yahutsadaq,

the high priest, with all the remnant of the people,

hearkened to the voice of JWJY their El and to the words of Chaggay the prophet,

as JWJY their El had sent him. And the people feared before JWJY.

Hag1:13 Then Chaggay, the messenger of JWJY, spoke by the message of JWJY

to the people saying, I am with you, declares JWJY.

Hag1:14 So JWJY stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shalti’El,

governor of Yahudah, and the spirit of Yahushua the son of Yahutsadaq, the high priest,

and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came

and did the work on the house of JWJY of hosts, their El,
