Obad1 The vision of ObadYah. Thus says Adonay JWJY concerning Edom 

we have heard a report from JWJY, and an envoy has been sent among the nations 

saying, Arise and let us go against her for battle. 

Ὅρασις Αβδιου. Τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῇ Ιδουµαίᾳ Ἀκοὴν ἤκουσα παρὰ κυρίου,

from there I shall bring you down, declares JWJY.

Obad 5 If thieves came to you, If robbers by night O how you shall been like them! 

Would they not steal until they had enough? If grape gatherers came to you, 

Would they not leave some gleanings? 

‹5› εἰ κλέπται εἰσῆλθον πρὸς σὲ ἢ λῃσταὶ νυκτός, ποῦ ἂν ἀπερρίφης; 

οὐκ ἂν ἔκλεψαν τὰ ἱκανὰ ἑαυτοῖς; καὶ εἰ τρυγηταὶ εἰσῆλθον πρὸς σέ,

Obad 7 All the men of your covenant have dismissed you to the border, 

and the men at peace with you shall deceived you and have prevailed over you. 

They are setting your bread a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.

Destroy wise men from Edom and understanding from the mountain of Esau?

ὅπως ἐξαρθῇ ἄνθρωπος ἐξ ὄρους Ησαυ

and you shall be cut off forever.

καὶ καλύψει σε αἰσχύνη καὶ ἐξαρθήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

Obad 12 But you should have not looked on the day of your brother, on the day 

of his misfortune. and should not have rejoiced over the sons of Yahudah in the day 

of their destruction; nor should you have enlarged your mouth in the day of their distress. 

‹12› καὶ µὴ ἐπίδῃς ἡµέραν ἀδελφοῦ σου ἐν ἡµέρᾳ ἀλλοτρίων 

καὶ µὴ ἐπιχαρῇς ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ιουδα ἐν ἡµέρᾳ ἀπωλείας αὐτῶν 

καὶ µὴ µεγαλορρηµονήσῃς ἐν ἡµέρᾳ θλίψεως·

Obad 13 You should not enter into the gate of My people in the day of their disaster; 

yes, you should not have looked on their calamity in the day of their disaster, 

nor have laid hands on their wealth in the day of their disaster. 

‹13› µηδὲ εἰσέλθῃς εἰς πύλας λαῶν ἐν ἡµέρᾳ πόνων αὐτῶν µηδὲ ἐπίδῃς 

καὶ σὺ τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτῶν ἐν ἡµέρᾳ ὀλέθρου αὐτῶν µηδὲ συνεπιθῇ 

ἐπὶ τὴν δύναµιν αὐτῶν ἐν ἡµέρᾳ ἀπωλείας αὐτῶν·

Obad 14 Nor should you have stood at the crossways to cut down their fugitives; 

nor should you have shut up his survivors in the day of their distress. 

‹14› µηδὲ ἐπιστῇς ἐπὶ τὰς διεκβολὰς αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι 

τοὺς ἀνασῳζοµένους αὐτῶν µηδὲ συγκλείσῃς τοὺς φεύγοντας ἐξ αὐτῶν 

ἐν ἡµέρᾳ θλίψεως.

Obad 15 For the day of JWJY draws near on all the nations. 

As you have done, it shall be done to you. Your dealings shall return on your head. 

‹15› διότι ἐγγὺς ἡµέρα κυρίου ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη· ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησας, 

οὕτως ἔσται σοι· τὸ ἀνταπόδοµά σου ἀνταποδοθήσεται εἰς κεφαλήν σου·

Obad 16 Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, all the nations shall drink 

continually. They shall drink and swallow and become as if they had not been. 

‹16› διότι ὃν τρόπον ἔπιες ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τὸ ἅγιόν µου, πίονται πάντα τὰ ἔθνη οἶνον· 

πίονται καὶ καταβήσονται καὶ ἔσονται καθὼς οὐχ ὑπάρχοντες.

And the house of Ya’aqob shall possess their possessions.

Obad 19 And the Negeb shall possess the mountain of Esau,
